Thanks much! I'm glad you didn't miss it - I've been very quiet here, of late. I should endeavor to take a better picture of this - the contrast and colors are a bit blown out. It has a different presence in real life, when you see it - but I suppose that's true of many works. Glad you like it, anyway!
Thanks - yes, the image is quite iconic, and would translate very well in stained glass. I've gotten that comment quite a lot from people - that it looks like a stained glass design.
Incredible, my friend!! I almost missed this post in my backroom, glad I didn't! This is amazing! I did some embroidery once, but it was patchy and mainly icons or a dog face... its tough! So this is even more impressive, seeing its so neat, tidy, and vibrant! Nice work!
For me, embroidery is even more calming. With hand-sewing, at least if you're making a garment, you're working over a large area - or perhaps in a more linear fashion - and there's a lot of planning involved. With embroidery, the motion feels more repetitive and it seems slower. It's like filling up a water bottle, one drop at a time. But that repetitive motion is very calming for me - and it seems to require a little less planning or attention, in a way - once you've decided what areas you'll be using particular colors for - it's really just that "filling up" motion.
Oh, yeah, I can imagine that it took a long time to work on. I've never tried my hand at embroidery but I like hand sewing (it's calming for me). Is it similar?
Thanks much! I was happy to finish it - it's about 2 and a half inches in diameter. It's somewhat surprising how long it can take to do this sort of thing. I spent the better part of my waking hours yesterday working on it. The nice thing about embroidery, though, is that you can put the tv on and watch while working...
